Research on the Best Practices for Online Course Design

My latest assignment in IDT 7074 is creating a 15 entry annotated bibliography. My topic is Best Practices for Online Course Design. My college uses Quality Matters as tool to improve online course design. Quality Matters says that their standards are research based. While I did not think I would come close to replicating the breadth or depth that QM reaches, I did want to build a base to better understand the ideas behind the rubric. I was surprised at how often two ideas came up in my research; Chickering's Seven Principles of Good Practice and the importance of Student/Instructor interaction.
